MEGA Week Ends With a Bang With Mega Man 6!

As all good things come to a close, so does MEGA Week.  And to end the week in style, I will talk a little bit about Mega Man 6, the final NES Mega Man title before the series migrates to the Super Nintendo (SNES) with Mega Man 7.  MM6 was released in 1994 by Capcom.  Mega Man must battle the evil Mr. X, who has released 8 new robot masters to cause mindless violence and mayhem (take a good hard look at Mr. X and you’ll see he isn’t who he says he is…Lol).  The Blue Bomber’s newest sidekick, Beat, returns to help him out along with Rush, but in a new way.  Rush now transforms into 2 unique armor upgrades for Mega Man (Power and Jet).  With these new upgrades, Mega Man can now punch through tough blocks and temporarily take to the sky with a jetpack.  You also get introduced to the energy balancer, which will automatically recharge the weapon with the lowest energy when you pick up a weapon replenishing item (someone very familiar will give you this item, if you can find the secret room its hidden in).

All in all, this game was a little redundant, but enjoyable to play nonetheless.  Great music and decent challenge factor.  A definite must to play if you are a Mega fan!

MEGA Week, Day 5: Help Clear Proto Man’s Name In Mega Man 5

Ok, Mega fans, it’s time to prove Proto Man is innocent of kidnapping Dr. Light as MEGA Week begins to come to a close with Mega Man 5.  This installment in the Mega Man NES series was released to North American fans in 1992.  MM5 keeps with the tradition of battling 8 new robot masters (Wave Man, Star Man, Gravity Man, Gyro Man, Crystal Man, Napalm Man, Stone Man, and Charge Man), with Rush close by and the new Super Arrow weapon.  This game also introduces fans to Mega Man’s newest ally, Beat, the energetic battle bird bot (but you have to collect the single letter icons that are hidden in the robot masters’ stages to spell MEGAMANV in order to get Beat!).  Defeat the 8 robot masters and you’ll get to brave through Proto Man’s fortress of gizmos and traps.  But why would Proto Man kidnap Dr. Light?  Sounds like the work of an evil scientist (whom shall remain nameless…Lol).  And I must say that Gravity Man’s stage is one of the coolest and most unique stages that Capcom ever designed!

So pick up this awesome sequel and help the Blue Bomber save Dr. Light and prove his brother’s innocence!

Day 4 of MEGA Week Spotlights Mega Man 4

And time for another Mega game changer as MEGA Week continues with Mega Man 4!  Released in North America by Capcom in January, 1992 (I’ll add that it was a great birthday present for me that month/year…Lol), MM4 brought a couple of new concepts to the Mega Man universe.  First one is the introduction to the Mega Buster, a charged shot which helps defeat enemies a little easier than using the weak single plasma bullets Mega Man normally shoots.  The game also introduces a new villain by the name of Dr. Cossack, with his own fortress of madness and mayhem for the Blue Bomber to fight through (don’t worry, Dr. Wily is around there somewhere too…Lol).  And yes, there are 8 new robot masters to defeat and collect their weapons.  Some are actually pretty unique compared to the weapons in the first 3 Mega Man games (Rain Flush and Pharaoh Shot are pretty cool!).  This game also features 2 optional Adapter items that are hidden in select stages (Balloon and Wire Adapters), but they aren’t necessary to collect in order to beat the game since you’ll have Rush with you.

All in all, this is a very cool game that has its challenges and great music and some of the most interesting designed stages (ones to note are Skull Man, Dust Man, and the 1st Dr. Wily stage with a Met (the hard hat enemy) theme going on!).

You Guessed It, Day 3 of MEGA Week Continues With Mega Man 3!

Low and behold, the Mega madness continues with day 3 of MEGA Week!  Today, I’m going to talk about Mega Man 3, one of the Mega Man series game-changers.  Released to North America in 1990 for the NES, MM3 brought forth a lot of new and interesting features to the series.  Such new features including giving the Blue Bomber the ability to slide through narrow spaces and dodge enemy attacks, the introduction of Rush, Mega Man’s faithful canine sidekick, and also his mysterious brother, Proto Man (first introduced as Break Man).  Other concepts include 8 new Robot Masters (see pics below) to fight and gain new weapons from, but in addition to that, you also get to face the mighty Doc Robot who uses the weapon abilities of the Mega Man 2 Robot Masters!  All that and you still have to defeat Dr. Wily for a third time!  Talk about a Mega game!!!

This game is very challenging, but has a strong replay value along with great music and several new stages to explore.  So what are you waiting for? Pick up this title and have a Mega good time!!!

MEGA Week Continues With Mega Man 2!

Alright Mega Man fans, we continue MEGA Week with Mega Man 2, the 1989 sequel to Mega Man 1. The Blue Bomber continues his battle against the evil Dr. Wily, but instead of 6 robot masters, Mega Man must contend against and defeat 2 additional Doc Robots, bringing the total to 8 that he has to fight. Good news, he’ll acquire 8 unique special weapons (Bubble Lead, Atomic Fire, Metal Blade, Quick Boomerang, Time Stopper, Crash Bomber, Air Shooter, and Leaf Shield).  He’ll also have 3 platforms-type items that Dr. Light, his creator, will develop for Mega Man to use.  This game also introduces players to the energy replenishing E-Tank!

Mega Man 2 was a big improvement from its predecessor game title in terms of level length, music and replay value. Give it a try and have a mega time!

It’s MEGA Week with Mega Man

Guess what? It’s Mega Week here at retronesgamerkmg’s blog to recognize and celebrate my favorite NES game character, Mega Man!!! The long running gem of Capcom began with the release of its first game in 1987. Since then, Mega Man gamers/fans have anticipated other titles to be released and have even released their own fan games (Mega Man Unlimited is AWESOME!!!)

Object of the game: Help Mega Man blast through action-packed levels while battling Dr. Wily’s 6 robot masters (Cut Man, Elec Man, Guts Man, Fire Man, Ice Man, and Bomb Man) and use the weapons collected from them to put an end to the menacing Dr. Wily.

This game series has great challenge, excellent soundtracks, and wonderful gameplay!

So for this week, I am going to showcase a different Mega Man game from 1-6 and a special tribute to Mega Man’s 9 and 10 that were released on the next gen consoles.

It’s Fun To Play The Goonies 2!

The Goonies 2, released by Konami for the NES in 1987, is an action adventure game with those memorable characters from the successful 80’s movie, the Goonies.  Basically, it’s an action/platform type game with some first-person elements tied into it as well.

Object of the game: Help Mikey rescue his 6 Goonie friends (Mouth, Chunk, Data, Andy, Stef, and Brand) in order to save a mermaid named Annie. Of course that won’t be easy with many obstacles, enemies, and the sinister Fratelli family around every corner.  Luckily, Mikey will collect several weapons and items to help him along the way on his journey through the Fratelli’s hideout and surrounding areas.

Great gameplay, definitely challenging (especially the 1st person parts), and a catchy soundtrack makes for an exciting adventure game. Are you up to the challenge?

Collect the 4 Pieces of the Ironsword and Vanquish the Evil Malkil

Ready for a medieval adventure? Then pick up your controllers and play Ironsword: Wizards and Warriors II for the NES! This game was published in North America by Acclaim Entertainment in 1989.

Object of the game:  Play as the heroic knight, Kuros and journey through the land of Sindarin while collecting the 4 pieces of the legendary Ironsword, which are guarded by 4 elemental bosses. Once the Ironsword is assembled, Kuros must find and defeat the evil wizard, Malkil to bring peace to Sindarin.

A very fun and challenging game as everything is out to kill Kuros…lol. But aside from that aspect, the graphics and music are great!

Can You Defeat Mother Brain in Metroid?

Metroid, released in North America in 1987 for the NES, is an action-adventure game with a sci-fi feel to it.  What people may not know is the main character, Samus Aran, is the female protagonist in this game.

Your mission:  Guide Samus through planet Zebes while collecting weapons and special attacks along the way as you make your way to the evil Mother Brain to destroy her.  The layout of the game is a maze-like structure, where you can get lost very easily.  But the fun part about getting lost is all of the hidden items you find along the way.  Be careful though because every nook and cranny of this game has enemies ready to sap your energy counter to zero and leave Samus a memory.

This is a very popular NES classic and I suggest anyone to try it out.  Believe me when I say that if you can master this game, then the Metroid Prime games become that much easier to master.
